How to add more sockets on to your existing circuitry, when you have a chip board floor

Here’s a recent example of a small electrical upgrade we carried out for a client who wanted some extra sockets added to their existing circuit, not always straightforward when you’ve got chipboard floors to work around! To make it happen cleanly and safely, we used an RMEG drill to create two precise access points, allowing us to run the new cabling without causing unnecessary damage or disruption. Everything’s been neatly wired in and tested, and the client was really pleased with the result. If you’re thinking about adding more sockets but aren’t sure how it’ll work with your current setup, we’re always happy to advise, just drop us a message!

Garden Room Project

Here’s another example of a garden room project we’ve undertaken this spring, with a real focus on feature lighting. We think it looks great! 💡😍 This was for a client in Branston. We’ve also used Quinetic wireless switches, which are a great solution if you don’t want the mess and redecoration you often get when putting new cables in place. Plus, in this instance, it saved running a cable across the garden and the groundworks that would have entailed. They’re a great bit of kit, and we find we’re installing more of these all the time. If you’d like to find out more about Quinetic switching, or have a garden room project we can help with, get in touch!

It was a busy April at Imp Electrical

We enjoyed some down time last week with breaks to Cornwall and Buxton respectively, but are back at it this morning with another solar install. 💪 This one is a little bit different, as rather than a brand new installation that we’re usually asked to do, we’re upgrading a system. The customer already had solar, however wanted to expand his system to include more panels and battery storage, as well as take advantage of advancements in technology by updating his panels and inverter. The client has opted for an all singing, all dancing Sig Energy system, with full UPS back up, which will be a significant upgrade on what was previously installed. Technology has moved on so much in the last 3 years, with the panels, batteries and inverters so much more efficient, that energy savings can be greatly maximised with an upgrade. ☀️ ⚡️ We’ve spent the morning removing old panels and installing the new rails, as well as completing the groundworks for the new cable. It’s a big job, but these are the projects we love getting stuck into.

hob power loss

Fault finding – Loss of power to hob

Fault finding today after a customer reported loss of power every time they tried to cook. Poppy quickly directed me to the cause of the problem and it was a very simple fix, however it’s a shame a newly fitted board was left this way in the first place. Loose connections such as these cause arcing and are a major fire safety risk, especially when on circuits with the greatest loads. We strongly recommend getting any issues you notice checked by a qualified electrician at the earliest opportunity. Most things are easy fixes and can prevent a lot of trouble down the line. Give us a call if you need advice on an electrical issue.  Brett 07872 182672  office.impelectrical@gmail.com impelectrical.co.uk

Why carry out an EICR?

Electrical Installation Condition Reports, or EICRs as they’re usually known, are carried out widely to assess the safety and condition of a property’s electrical systems. They’re carried out by qualified electricians and involve checking all the electrics in a property to check the safety of the installations, as well as identifying any issues that could cause problems if left untreated. They’re really good at identifying current and future problems and allowing the property owner to rectify them before they turn into bigger, potentially more expensive, issues. Landlords, house purchasers and businesses tend to be our biggest clients for EICRs, however we also recommend homeowners consider these too, usually every 10 years if your property is in a generally good condition. If your electrical systems are old or outdated, we may recommend doing this more often to prevent any major issues occurring. They’re a relatively inexpensive way of keeping on top of your electrics in a non invasive way. This video of a prime example of why EICRs are so vital in detecting issues. All can look good on the outside, but when you delve deeper, you can find serious defects that can have a major effect if left as is. If you’re in any doubt about the electrical systems in your property or business, feel free to contact us for a discussion about the best way forward.  Emily: 07800 668624  office.impelectrical@gmail.com impelectrical.co.uk

Full rewire Lincoln

Behind the Scenes: A Full Rewire at a Rental Property

Recently, our team; Matt, Poppy, and Brett, took on a full rewire at a client’s rental property. It has been a busy but rewarding project, with the goal of modernising the electrical system and making it safer and more efficient. Getting Started Right from the start, the team got stuck in. As Matt mentioned in a Facebook Reel, “Just getting things prepped out. There’s Poppy, getting all the stuff ready.” Even in the early stages, preparation was key to making sure everything ran smoothly. Overcoming Obstacles No rewire is without its challenges, and this one was no exception. Matt noted, “Lots of obstacles to work around.” Whether it was tight spaces or tricky existing wiring, the team handles each issue with a solid plan and a practical approach. We’ve done a lot of these. Upgrading the Mains Board A key part of this project was the installation of a new mains distribution board. Matt explained, “There’s Brett, getting ready for the mains distribution board. That’s all going to be coming out, putting in with a new fuse box with surge protection… and yeah, that’s going to make this place a whole lot better.” This upgrade means better safety, improved efficiency, and protection against power surges, essential for any rental property. The End Result With the old cabling removed and the new system in place, this rental property now has a future-proofed electrical setup that meets modern standards. The tenants and landlord can have peace of mind knowing the wiring is safe and built to last. Thinking about a rewire? Get in touch, we’re happy to help. What to expect during a rewire

What to Expect During a Rewire – A Customer’s Guide

If you’re planning a full rewire, be prepared – it can a big job! While the end result will be a safer, more efficient electrical system, getting there comes with a fair bit of mess, noise, and temporary disruption. How Disruptive Is a Rewire? Rewiring involves lifting floorboards, chasing into walls, and replacing cables, so dust and noise are unavoidable. If you can vacate the property for a few days, work can move faster. If you choose to stay, things will take a little longer as areas are worked on in stages to keep your living space functional. It’s really down to your preference and circumstances. BUT – we’re fast, efficient and tidy… Things to Consider When Planning Your Rewire Before work begins, have a detailed chat with your electrician to ensure your new setup meets your needs. Here are some key things to think about: ✅ Sockets & Switches – Where do you want them, and how many do you need? ✅ USB Sockets – A handy modern upgrade for charging devices without plug adaptors. ✅ Lighting Choices – Do you want downlights, wall lights, or a mix of both? ✅ Outdoor Power & Lighting – External sockets and security lighting can make a big difference. ✅ Future-Proofing – Consider provisions for a garage, shed power supply, EV charger, or solar panels. Talk to Your Electrician Early The key to a smooth rewire is planning ahead. The more decisions you make upfront, the fewer last-minute changes (and costs!) you’ll have to deal with. Got questions about rewires? Drop them in the comments, or get in touch – we’re happy to help! 📞 Brett – 07872 182672📧 office@impelectrical.com🌍 impelectrical.co.uk

What we’re installing a lot of… SigEnergy

Matt from Imp Electrical has been getting stuck into SigEnergy installations lately, and his latest job shows exactly why these systems are becoming so popular. First day on the job, and it was a busy one! This setup includes:⚡ 16kWh of battery storage⚡ 8kW inverter⚡ DC and AC isolators – ready for the solar panels to be hooked up⚡ A tidy, well-placed gateway – sitting neatly out the way but ready to kick in when needed Why’s This Such a Great System? SigEnergy is one of the best bits of kit we’re installing right now, and it’s hitting the right price point too. Once it’s up and running, power cuts won’t be a problem, the system will seamlessly switch over so everything stays on, no hassle, no flickers, no interruptions. It’s the perfect way to store up solar energy or charge up on cheap off-peak electricity, giving you backup power AND saving you money. A solid first install, and plenty more to come! If you’re thinking about battery storage, this setup is seriously worth a look.

Putting the Backup System to the Test: What Happens When the Power Goes Off – and Comes Back On? (Part 2)

In the second part of his video, Matt from Imp Electrical puts the battery backup system to the ultimate test – turning off the mains power (part 1) to see how well it performs. The result? A seamless transition that proves just how reliable this setup really is. No Flicker, No Downtime – Just Continuous Power As soon as Matt switches off the mains, the batteries take over instantly, keeping everything powered without a single flicker. Thanks to the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), there’s no delay, no devices restarting, and even the WiFi stays up, so if you were in a video call, you wouldn’t even notice the switchover. Where Does the Power Come From? One of the key benefits of this system is its flexibility in energy sourcing. The batteries can be:✅ Charged using solar panels – Store free, renewable energy during the day and use it when needed.✅ Charged during off-peak hours – Buy electricity when it’s cheapest and store it for later, reducing energy bills. What Happens When the Power Comes Back On? Just as impressively, when mains power is restored, the transition back is just as smooth. There’s no sudden surge, no interruptions, and no need to reset anything. The system automatically shifts back to grid power while ensuring the batteries remain charged and ready for the next outage. This test proves that backup power isn’t just for emergencies, it’s a smarter, cost-effective way to manage energy every day. Whether you want protection against power cuts or just a way to cut electricity costs, Imp Electrical’s system delivers.
